Last week I took part in Bedford Bridal Workshop at the Embankment Hotel. Suppliers from the area got together to showcase their talents to perspective brides who were looking for hints and tips on how best to allocate their wedding budget. Zulika from Golden Poppy Events has a wealth of experience and advice on all things Wedding and was on hand offer practical advice on how to organise your wedding day to ensure you get what you want!
I was there to explain to brides how to make the most of the wedding photography. Tips such as making sure you have established how much time you have available between the wedding ceremony and the wedding breakfast for couple and group photography. We also discussed how beneficial it is to scout the venue with your photographer to find the most beautiful spots and agree at which point in the day you will be shooting there. For example, sunset shots are most effective in a landscape setting where the horizon is in clear view. Another point for couples to consider is whether they would like a wedding album to be included. For me, this is a very important thing to have from your photographer. Professional photographers have access to printing and album specialists who can ensure a quality finish. In my experience, couples purchase a USB/CD only, tend not to print their photographs or end up unhappy with the look at feel of the prints. Florae Foray did a beautiful DIY inspired florist demonstration showing brides how they can style the venue themselves, with flowers found in gardens and roadsides such as Cows Parsley and Ox Eye Daisies. Becky also demonstrated table centres with supermarket bought peonies, sweet Williams and stocks together with garden foliage and summer fruits to create a luxurious display piece. She showed brides how quick, simple and inexpensive this is to recreate and retain a professional looking finish. Brides went away with fact sheets full of details to help them make informed and cost saving decisions when choosing their wedding flowers.
Ali K Mua also gave bridal make up demonstrations whilst offering advice, tips and techniques in Skincare and Makeup. She answered questions on concerns such how to find the right shade of foundation and how to create a natural make up look. One such concern was from a bride who did not wear make up day to day and wanted to find a look at was natural yet effective for the wedding photographs. Ali gave the brides the opportunity to try out a selection of amazing makeup brands such as Laura Mercier, Nars, Mac, Kevyn Aucoin to name a few.
Bespoke Wedding Hairstyling by Kate created an easy bridal hair up with some flowers to make the look relevant. Kate is a huge fan of the flower crown and the brides enjoyed seeing how creative they can get with their hair. She gave her advice on styles that will suit the brides and explained the tools and products to keep gorgeous hair from flopping!
The yummy part of the workshop was provided by the lovely Helen of Sweetness & Delight Wedding Cakes. Brides enjoyed discussing the tasty options when it comes to the wedding cake such a flavour, style and pricing. Our guests devoured her rum and chocolate cake and it was the best chocolate cake I have ever tasted, ‘bar none’ as my Dad likes to say!
Everything seemed to come together perfectly when the brides began to try on the stunning dresses from Lisa Bilotti Bridal Couture. It was so lovely to see the brides start to get excited for their big day.
Lisa with her vast knowledge was able to advise on all things related to wedding dresses such as choosing a dress the right dress and how to shop for a wedding dress whether it’s bespoke or of the rail.
