The Embankment, Bedford

Last week I took part in Bedford Bridal Workshop at the Embankment Hotel. Suppliers from the area got together to showcase their talents to perspective brides who were looking for hints and tips on how best to allocate their wedding budget. Zulika from Golden Poppy Events has a wealth of experience and advice on all things Wedding and was on hand offer practical advice on how to organise your wedding day to ensure you get what you want!

I was there to explain to brides how to make the most of the wedding photography. Tips such as making sure you have established how much time you have available between the wedding ceremony and the wedding breakfast for couple and group photography. We also discussed how beneficial it is to scout the venue with your photographer to find the most beautiful spots and agree at which point in the day you will be shooting there. For example, sunset shots are most effective in a landscape setting where the horizon is in clear view. Another point for couples to consider is whether they would like a wedding album to be included. For me, this is a very important thing to have from your photographer. Professional photographers have access to printing and album specialists who can ensure a quality finish. In my experience, couples purchase a USB/CD only, tend not to print their photographs or end up unhappy with the look at feel of the prints. Florae Foray did a beautiful DIY inspired florist demonstration showing brides how they can style the venue themselves, with flowers found in gardens and roadsides such as Cows Parsley and Ox Eye Daisies. Becky also demonstrated table centres with supermarket bought peonies, sweet Williams and stocks together with garden foliage and summer fruits to create a luxurious display piece. She showed brides how quick, simple and inexpensive this is to recreate and retain a professional looking finish. Brides went away with fact sheets full of details to help them make informed and cost saving decisions when choosing their wedding flowers.

She answered questions on concerns such how to find the right shade of foundation and how to create a natural make up look. One such concern was from a bride who did not wear make up day to day and wanted to find a look at was natural yet effective for the wedding photographs. Ali gave the brides the opportunity to try out a selection of amazing makeup brands such as Laura Mercier, Nars, Mac, Kevyn Aucoin to name a few.
